The lights went out while they were eating dinner. Everyone moaned about how dark it was, until Cynthia had the bright idea to walk down to the beach in the moonlight.
At first James complained about the mosquitoes, then his wife fell into a hole in the sand and then James fell over a log and he kept reminding everyone that he'd told them it was a bad idea to go wandering around in the dark.
Then Cynthia spotted some phosphorous as it floated on the crest of the waves and glowed in the moonlight and they all stopped complaining. Cynthia said it was moonlight dancing off the wings of fairies and they all had a good laugh.
The girls later chased each other down the beach and then somehow they all landed up in the shallows. The mood had changed, but they had not realized this as yet.
Now wet and bedraggled they made their way back home and on the way some fireflies prancing around in the reeds caught their attention. Again they all stopped and stared at this marvel of nature.
At home, while drinking their Irish coffees, they all reflected on how wonderful their night of fairy lights had been. They also realized that just in seeing the amazing light show, it had lightened the mood and made them all feel happier than they had ever been in a while.
With their friendship restored, they re-lived the marvels of nature they had seen that night.
