I’ve colorized Edmund J. Sullivan’s 75 b/w line art drawings for his artistic rendition of Edward FitzGerald’s ‘Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam’ first edition. How does one make anything out of some black lines and a lot of white space? Revised First, crop out any excess, then delete all the white and put a background color or a slight scene behind the black, one that won’t overpower the drawing; then select only the black and put a gradient through it until it looks fine, perhaps shifting the hues somewhat; then bevel it to apparently raise it up a bit into the 3rd dimension. Then colorize more via photoshop.
